FM21 – Yes Man! Pt. 2 – Club 05, Episode 16 – A Dramatic Finish

Hi! My name is Pierran Shearer. I am not related to Alan but he has inspired me to start a career in football management. This is my Football Manager story. I’m 28 years old and used to teach PE in a school in Cornwall.

If you haven’t caught up with the save so far, go back and read from the beginning here

New Goals

Now that we have waved away bid from Real Madrid and I never got an interview for the Barcelona job, I turned my attention back to Zidane and beating him. But before we got anywhere near that, we’d have to dominate the Serie A again.

The first half of the season went as you’d expected. I was a little bit disappointed with the opening month where we drew to Parma and to Juventus. I thought dropping points to the rubbish teams was behind us! We also lost to Inter. That result may come in to play towards the end of the season – but we’ll have to wait and see about that one!

What was missing from this time of the year was a couple of games against Zidane’s Real Madrid to keep us entertained! His press conferences are hilarious where he tries to play mind games. It’s a shame we haven’t been drawn against him this season. But having a year off from him is important, I think.

Champions League

The Champions League group stage this year didn’t have Real Madrid. That’s disappointing as it’s what the fans want! But my obsession with beating him if becoming a joke now! So let’s just beat the other side of Madrid.

And that’s just what happened. We won 5 out of the 6 matches finishing top of the group.

The only team to beat us were Celtic. I had decided to use that game to give some of the younger players a run out and give other players a bit of game time to increase match fitness. It turned out to be a mistake and Celtic – who seem to be a bit of a dark horse in Europe – are at it again progressing to the knockout stages ahead of AtlĂ©tico de Madrid. I wonder if their job is now available… I could beat Zidane eve more regularly then!

But with the group stages out of the way, it was time for the First Knockout Round. We were drawn against Lyon. Easy win there.

Real Madrid has also progressed and were drawn against Juventus. So a possibility of meeting them further down the line.

I was missing not playing against Zidane and constantly wondering if I should dodge a headbutt. But as the draw concluded, I got a strange text… I can only wonder who it is from…

January 2035

January arrived and so did our most important month with games in all 3 domestic competitions. But it also marks the time I can sign young South American players for the future. And that is exactly what has happened. No less than FIVE boys have joined the club, all with immense amounts of potential. All signed for a total of £6 million. Perhaps some can go straight in to the first team and a bit of cover in this busy month?

It’s been a while since I’ve been so FMed. But the first game of 2035 against Sassuolo we were well and truly FMed. Just check out the stats for yourself!

18 – 2 on shots

1.19 – 0.09 xG rating

Our shooting was not on point that day with most of the shots being off target. So it was what we deserved, really! But we move on to the next one. We’ll come back stronger!

Our next important game was the Fanta Cup first round where we smashed Padova 4-0. This was followed up with the Coca-Cola Supercup Final against Juventus. WHAT. A. GAME! A 91st minute winner by local boy Zaza Mamuchishvili! (Not a name you can shout quickly!) to bag us the win and yet another Fizzy Drink cup. Well done boys!

From this the rest of the month was a success despite a slight scare against Parma in the Fanta Cup Quarter Final where we made things difficult!

After going behind early on, we left it until the 93rd minute – the last kick of the game – to equalise. But then went on to win 5-1 in extra time!

A crazy results and not sure we deserved it. But with Fergy time added on, we were able to dispatch Parma. I’m not sure the board would have been very happy with me if we’d gone out this early in the cup! Pay rise for Jakov. I think!

February – April 2035

There was much success in the remaining month of the season. We continued winning the the league only losing once to Cagliari – which was another FMing. I was getting sick of this. Twice in a season is too many! Sort it out boys!

The match was overshadowed by beating Bolognese in the Fanta Cup Semi-Final to be drawn, once again, against Juventus.

We also had the Champions League First Round Knockout round against Lyon to win, which we did. 2-1 overall score saw us progress to the Quarter Finals who would be against Manchester United. History has shown that a draw against them has been an easy draw…

But before that one, we had Juventus to beat for a second time to clinch the Fanta Cup. Another epic game for the neutrals as the match finished 0-0 after extra time and went to penalties.

I can’t say I was happy with the result, as once again, we failed to find the net in 28 attempts! The xG score suggested we could have had 3 goals! But NOOO we’d have to go to penalties!

But there was excitment in it! With Juventus missing their second penality, we had the advantage at 2-1 (after 2 pens).

We both scored next while we missed out 4th and they scored. It was back to 3-3 (after 4 pens).

Result! They missed their 5th penalty meaning we only had to score and we’d have two cups in the bag with the league and Champions League to go! Who is to take it? Midfielder Ruiz, of course!

He stepped up confidently to take the penalty. Time stood still as he put the ball down on the penalty spot, walked back and turned to start his run up. The whole stadium held its breath. One step, two steps, three… he planted his left foot next to the ball and struck it with his right. The keeper jumped to his right, stretching as much as he could to prevent the ball from going past him.

GOOOOOOOOAL! The ball has come off the keeper’s hand, bounced off the post and went in! The fans stood up and erupted into cheers of CHAMPIONES CHAMPIONES OLE OLE OLE! Ruiz ran to the corner flag to celebrate. Where was I? Stood on the centre circle. Alone. I had sneezed as Ruiz had struck the ball missing the goal! Oh well…

But that it for now. With a couple of epic games left, I feel it would fit nicely in its own episode.

Please come back and find out what happens next
