FM21 – Yes Man! Pt. 2 – Club 05, Episode 21 – Not Again!

Hi! My name is Pierran Shearer. I am not related to Alan but he has inspired me to start a career in football management. This is my Football Manager story. I’m 28 years old and used to teach PE in a school in Cornwall.

If you haven’t caught up with the save so far, go back and read from the beginning here

2036

Having been the top spenders in the league this season (and contributing to a third of all Serie A transfers) and signing players who can’t even play for us this year, we head in to the league with hope and anticipation that this year is going to be our year. All four trophies are a real possibility. The Serie A, both Fizzy Drink Trophies and the Holy Grail: The Champions League. But only if I can win it against Real Madrid in the final…

The opening months of the season up until Christmas is, as it’s turned out to be over the last few years, completely ours and we remain unbeaten. There were two slip ups against Cagliari early on in the season and newly promoted AC Milan in November. But with a solid December scoring 18 goals and conceding only twice put us in pole position to win the league for another year.

The Champions League

The Champions League draw, as you saw last time, was a bit more of a difficult one this season having to play against Manchester City, Valencia and RB Leipzig.

It was one of the tighter groups that we’ve been a part of compared to recent years. But only losing twice and beating all three teams at least once during the group stage meant we finished second in the group and qualified for the first knockout round of the much sought after Champions League trophy. We finished second behind Manchester City up only 1 point. Who would we get in the next round?

What?! Manchester United AGAIN?!?! We got them last season as well and ended up being knocked out because we couldn’t find a way to beat them over the two legs… I so want this year to be different. I bet Chelsea also win…

January 2037

The busy month of January was upon us again. Another Super Cup final, a couple of Coppa Italia games and the league. The Cup games all went without a hitch, winning all of them. We beat Empoli 5-2 and Parma 5-0 in the Coppa Italia First Round and Quarter Final and a 2-0 win over Bologna in the Supercup final meant we lifted another trophy.

The league, however, did NOT go to plan! The busy month of January always seems to throw us a bit and this year is no different. We lost not one, but TWO league games to Benevento and, less surprising, Juventus. That Juventus loss allowed them to close the gap a bit at the top…

The drop in the usual very high expectation were probably due to the number of injuries we had picked up.

The injuries to the players were mainly to the starting 11. And covered all positions so we had no choice but to scrape the bottom of the barrel a bit to find the players that could play for us. But to be fair, with the squad we’d gathered, scraping the barrel found players that were still world class!

But it still didn’t help that we needed these players and they were sorely missed in January and February.

But with them coming back to full fitness just in time for the Coppa Italia Semi-Final legs against Juventus with be perfect. I just need to make sure they look after themselves a bit before then to make sure we have another run at the domestic treble.

Coppa Italia Semi-Final

The first leg went smoothly winning at home 3-0. Goals from winger José Carlos and new boy Katsichtis who I found in the reserves banging the goals in! He was on loan in the first part of the season at Young boys but I recalled him while he was top scorer because I thought he could do a job for us.

The second leg we actually lost 2-1. But thanks to the 93rd minute goal in the first leg, we won the tie 4-3 and avoided any extra time or penalties to ensure we’d reach the final. But because we’d beaten Juventus in the Semi-Final, the fans would miss out on another Lazio/Juve final. This season it would be Udenese who would be picking up the runner up medals.

But that will be next time.

Please come back and find out what happens next
