FM21 – Yes Man! – Club 05, Episode 08 – Fizzy Drink Trophy

Hi! My name is Pierran Shearer. I am not related to Alan but he has inspired me to start a career in football management. This is my Football Manager story. I’m 28 years old and used to teach PE in a school in Cornwall.

If you haven’t caught up with the save so far, go back and read from the beginning here

Fizzy Drink Trophies

The world of advertising and sponsorship has hit Italy hard. There’s the Italian cup competition sponsored by Fanta and the Supercup sponsored by Coca-Cola.

We are still only playing in the Serie A which is yet to be taken over. But it won’t be long before it’s renamed the Pepsi Serie A… Oh well. On to the cup!

The game was a decent one for us. Inter have been falling since the end of last season and we were able to beat them 3-1 in the final to claim our first trophy of the season. A giant Coke can. It all counts and we’ll be hoping to push onwards from here to secure the Serie A and the Fanta cup too.

Something interesting about the cup was that it was played in America. In an emormous NFL stadium with a capacity of almost 92,000 fans! It was an epic event as it was completly sold out to a mixture of Italians who had made the journey over and American. But then there are a lot of American/Italians living in the States. It was good support for us!

But it’s not time to turn to the other Fizzy Drink cup. The Coppa Italia Fanta. The early stages were not as exciting as the later stages. We easily reached the Semi-Finals beating lower league teams and came up against Monza who were still flying in the league.

Things just clicked for us as we humiliated them 8-1 in the first leg! The stars had to align for us to do that and not only had the stars aligned but the planets and solar systems too! An amazing results meant I could dedicate the second leg to build some match fitness and give the youngsters a bit of a go. We won the second leg 5-1 meaning we’d be in the final.

The final would be a rerun of the Coca-Cola final with us against Inter. Bring it on!

Rest of The 2031-32 Season

With all these fizzy drink cups, we almost forget about the rest of the season! But here goes:

From January to March we managed to keep the good form going. Losses against Milan, Napoli and more surprisingly Fiorentina cost us some important points. Fiorentina are also battling for relegation so that was a bit embarrassing. It also means we are four points from the leaders Juventus so we are closer at this stage that last season! We just need them to slip up a bit and give us a chance to get back. But with time running out, the odds aren’t great! Surely we can’t do it again?!

With six games remaining and one of them against Inter, we are in a position to over take Juventus. But they are flying and have their easier games still to play. So I don’t think it’s possible.

Title Race

For a second year in a row, it comes down to the final few games of the season. We are chasing Juventus this time with a few challenging games to play. They, however, don’t. So I will be hoping for a small miracle to help us over the line this season. We need to make 4 points on them. Will it happen?

We beat Torino while Juventus beat their toughest opponent in the final few games 4-0. This was the one I was hoping they’d lose but it wasn’t meant to be.

Next round was a closer one. Juventus still won and earnt the 3 points and so did we. It goes down to the next round! They really need to lose the next one!

We needed to beat Monza to stand a chance. Actually we needed to win every game remaining to stand a chance! And it was another exciting one against Monza. 5-2 results meant it was over to Juventus the following day to win the title. If they won that would be it. We would finish 2nd but if they lost it would go one game further! What happened?

They won. Game over. Oh well. Second place still isn’t bad as it was a trophy winning season again. And we’ve also got the Fanta one to go!

In the end we finish second with the same number of points at Inter. Luckily our goal difference helps us over the line and several million extra in prize money. Champions League football again next season and a chance to continue to grow.

Coppa Italia Fanta Final

I’ll keep this short. We won. 2-1 over Inter. Easy.

Champions League

Our first Champions League knockout game was against Benfica. A team we should beat given the difference in squad and leagues, etc. But a disappoint game that ended in a draw went to penalities. We almost lost it but a really late goal from Popovic sent it to extra time and eventually penalties.

Unfortunately Benfica were too good at penalties. I think they’d been practicing and we missed one which would be it for us. Disappointing as Benfica went to the Semi-Finals and lost to eventual winner Lyon. Based on that, we could have won the Champions League! Oh well. Next season we’ll be back and even better!
