FM21 – Yes Man! – Club 05, Episode 07 – Europe’s Elite

Hi! My name is Pierran Shearer. I am not related to Alan but he has inspired me to start a career in football management. This is my Football Manager story. I’m 28 years old and used to teach PE in a school in Cornwall.

If you haven’t caught up with the save so far, go back and read from the beginning here

Serie A 2031

The start to the season wasn’t as good as I’d hoped. Difficult games against Milan, Juventus and Roma cost us points in the opening stages. But form improved after that and Inter were the only team to beat us between October and the end of December. There are a few too many draw, though, which cost us in the league.

Those dropped points in the draws mean we fins ourselves in 6th at Christmas and half way through the season.

We managed to come back from this sort of position last season after Inter were unbeaten at this stage.

But more surprising is finding Monza, usually only know for it’s motor racing circuit, at the top ahead of Inter, Juventus and us! The were our bogey team last season and our only loss in the first half of the season.

We also played the group stages of the Champions League during this period. How many did we lose? Well I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

Champions League

To remind you of our group from death, we’d have to find results against some of the elites of Europe. AtlĂ©tico de Madrid – Spain’s Everton. Always in the shadow of the big boys. The Yellow Wall of Germany and Dinamo Zagreb. Between them, they’d won the competition once, (Dortmund) and reached four finals. Their squads were impressive and the value of some of their players were immense. But we had confidence in ourselves. How did they matches go?

A bit like this! There is a lot of green there. We started with a lucky point against AtlĂ©tico. A late equaliser from David. But that was followed by wins against Zagreb and Dortmund before losing the away leg in Germany. Two more wins meant we would finish the group top! An unbelievable set of results that suggested we might actually be becoming one of Europe’s elite teams!

We’d be heading to the knockout stages of the Champions League. The prize money for winning the group stage games has really helped grow the bank balance and continuing deeper into the coemption will do exactly the same! It’ll help pay for some of the transfers we made at the beginning of the season.

Our oppenents: Portugal’s Benfica. An fairly easy draw given some of the teams that remained in the competition but I bet Dortmund would have said that about us and now they are no longer in the competition.

We’ll be preparing for these matches and continuing in the league. But first we have the first opportunity to win some silverware. The Charity Shield of the Italian leagues is played in January and having won the league, we are invited. It’s sponsored by Coca-Cola. It seems all cups are sponsored by fizzy drinks! Maybe it won’t be long before we are playing in the 7-Up Serie A!

Please come back and find out what happens next
