FM21 – Yes Man! – Club 05, Episode 03 – The ‘Fifa’ Pass

Hi! My name is Pierran Shearer. I am not related to Alan but he has inspired me to start a career in football management. This is my Football Manager story. I’m 28 years old and used to teach PE in a school in Cornwall.

If you haven’t caught up with the save so far, go back and read from the beginning here

First Half

The first half of the season went really well. I was pleased with David, the new signing as he started the campaign with a hattrick and continued to score regularly. At the other end of the pitch, the new goalkeeper starts well not conceding too many and putting in decent performance. The goals came from a lack of experience in the defence which is to be expected. Most are under 20 so need time to learn.

But we did have a few injury problems. And with the teams being really, really old, it was like a retirement home! Games were regularly ending with an injury or two, especially in the later stages of the matches. It’s a good job we have a large squad with plenty of depth! It did cost us with a shock defeat the Monza and another loss to league leaders Inter (who were running away with the league! There was no stopping them!)

We were doing really well sitting above everyone except Inter who were just in another league! Not counting Inter, who I believe have already won the league, We were 5 points ahead of Juventus in 3rd.

Being in this position was excellent given it was still our first season! It’s too soon to say but I think we’ve certainly started to make Lazio great again! Let’s book the open top bus tour for next year! Or is that too optimistic. Looking at Inter who haven’t lost in the opening 17 games, I might not booked the bus.

Europa Conference League

The Europa Conference League looks safe. Apart from a slip up to Boavista, which I’m putting down to those injuries, we won everything comfortably scoring lots of goals.

We finished top of the group by 5 points meaning we would skip the first knockout round which was only for teams who finished in second place in their groups. The winners of those matches would progress to play the winners – that’s us!

The Most Important Thing

But something happened that was more important than progressing to the knockout stages of the Europa Conference, more important than being 2nd in the league, more important than the discovery of gravity, more important… you get the idea.

Not too long ago I wrote a post about trying to get players to cross the ball in the event of a man being free and available for a tap in. I called it the Fifa Pass. And I wasn’t sure that players had the vision to pull off this type of play.

That was until I met David and Sieb. These two are telepathically linked! And the images below will show you what I mean!

They have pulled off the impossible! David runs down the left wing and see Sieb free in the middle. All he needed to do was pass across field to Sieb who would be able to tap it in. What happens normally is the striker see nothing but the goal. But not this time! He crosses it and Sieb scores an easy goal!

Both players received a pay rise because of it. That should motivate them for the rest of the season, right?!

Please come back and find out what happens next
